Ric Fedyna Joins WS as Executive VP, Creative
One of the first things Ric Fedyna did upon joining WS in October was rearrange the furniture. Though our Calgary office boasted a variety of meeting spaces, Ric carved out a space for the Creative Team that includes bright yellow leather couches and plenty of room to sprawl – both literally and figuratively. It’s a space where you’ll often find him, leading a brainstorming session or having a one to one meeting with a member of his team.
So what’s the key to building a loyal brand following? In Ric’s estimation, it’s a careful blend of art and science. “Great creative and engaging platforms are key. Defined objectives, strategy and the space to let your imagination run wild all come together to create successful brands,” he says. And as the former Senior Vice-President, General Manager and Creative Director of McCann Calgary, he’s had plenty of opportunity to practice what he preaches – and see it return dividends in the form of hundreds of successful campaigns.
Bringing over 30 years of experience to the newly created role of Executive VP, Creative, he also brings a talent that’s rare among Creative Directors these days – he can actually draw! The ability to put vision to paper is more than just enviable; it fuels creativity throughout the entire office.
With dozens of regional, national and international awards to his credit, and previous client experience that includes General Motors, Bayer CropScience, Mark’s, TELUS, Shaw, Brookfield Residential, Shell, Suncor and TransCanada, Ric is no stranger to accolades. But with his feet firmly grounded in nature, and with a genuine love for art and adventure, Ric leads with a presence that feeds energy and inspiration without pretenses into every team throughout WS.
A wildlife artist that hunts, Ric spends his personal time bowhunting, what he calls an artful and meditative practice that connects him to ancestry and forefathers whose survival depended upon what they could hunt and gather. Inspired by all things wild, he spends his time in the woods patiently observing the patterns of nature, the movement of animals and the breathtaking landscapes Alberta offers, translating the magic to images and stories on canvas.
We’re excited to have Ric on the team. Join us in welcoming him! You can connect with Ric on LinkedIn – we’re sure he’d love to talk about art, hunting, or the intersection between the two.
